Self Care-Sunday: My Favorite Ways To Recharge For The Week

Self care: Hiking

Ten years ago, I hated Sundays. There was nothing to do, all the shops were closed, and everybody was hungover from the night before. But in the past few years, I guess since starting to work full time, I have really come to enjoy the slowness of Sundays. It’s my chance to take care of myself, do whatever I want, whenever I want. And the fact that there isn’t much to do is actually really helpful, as it allows me to properly unwind and recharge for the new week ahead. Now obviously “self care” and what you do to unwind is highly subjective and personal. You might do the exact opposite of what I’m doing – I don’t mind. As long as you’re happy. But if you want to know my personal favorite things to do on self care-Sundays, keep reading!

Beauty Treatments

Spending some time on beauty treatments or routines is a big part of my self care. There are a few things I like to do:

  • Oiling my hair. As I mentioned in this post, I love doing this, but it’s a bit time consuming. Perfect thing for a Sunday! I will usually put it in my hair around noon (after my workout) and leave it on until dinner time. It makes my hair sooo soft, I love it!
  • The “Everything Shower“. I think every girl will know what I mean by the everything shower. It’s the one where you do it all: wash your hair, put in a hair mask, exfoliate, shave, give your hands and feet a buffer down. Just everything.
  • Skincare: I love to put on a face mask either before or after my shower – depends on what it is and whether it needs washing off or not. Sundays are also perfect for a little facial massage – I like using Gua Shas or face rollers. They are said to help with the firmness and anti-aging of the skin. And I personally think it’s super relaxing.
  • Put on some lovely body cream after my shower and marinate in it.
  • Fake tan: I always feel 100 times better when I’ve got a tan on. And while I don’t recommend sun tanning, a good fake tan can get you the same result – in a lot less time & with a lot less skin damage!
  • Mani/Pedi: Depending on where you are, you could probably go for a mani/pedi. But where I live, that isn’t an option. But fear not – of course there are great ways to do it at home! I use a UV nail polish set from Neonail, and just get whatever colors I like on Amazon. This is another time consuming task. But I find it rather therapeutic. Plus it gives me a chance to catch up on my favorite Netflix shows or YouTube videos.

Physical Self Care

Aside from the beauty stuff, this is another important factor in my self care routine. I love a slow start to my Sunday – sleeping in, then having a cup of coffee. But then, I like to pick up the pace:

  • Go for a workout. Fitness and wellbeing are the epitome of self care. No beauty treatment will make you feel amazing if you’re sluggish.
  • Do some yoga/stretching. Working out doesn’t have to be strenuous exercise every single time. On some days, I prefer doing some lighter stuff, like yin yoga or just basic stretches. Just listen to your body and really tune in to understand what it wants and needs.
  • Nutritious food: There’s a time and place for comfort foods. But when it comes to my self care-Sundays, I prefer to have eat really nutritious, healthy meals. My favorites are salad bowls and Thai curries. Both are super quick and easy to make, taste amazing and are good for your body. Plus I always make a huge quantity, to take to work the next day and have a nutritious lunch as well. Love it!

Self Care Activities

So once again, depending on where you are, you might have places open to go to for some self care. I think the highest form of self care is getting a massage or a facial, but where I am, that isn’t an option on a Sunday. But fear not, there are plenty of things you can do instead:

  • Go out into nature. Being outdoors, walking or hiking, recharges my batteries like nothing else. And you don’t have to go to fancy places to be outside. A walk through the neighborhood or local park can also do the trick.
  • Reading. Another one of my favorites! Curled up on the sofa, freshly showered, face mask and fuzzy socks on, tea in one hand and a book in the other. Perfection.
  • Watching your favorite comfort show/movie. If you’re not into reading – first up, why??? – you could curl up on the sofa watching your favorite program just as well. My favorites for self care Sundays include Friends, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. You choose.
  • Find yourself a hobby that is just for you. For me, it’s this blog, gardening, cooking and baking. Playing an instrument, painting, knitting… the options are endless!

The reason I didn’t put “go out with friends” into the list is that not everybody recharges well with others around. I’m a perfect example for that. I recharge best when I’m all by myself for a couple of hours – not even my boyfriend around. I’m also that type of person whose social battery runs out in the middle of a conversation and all I want to do is go home and be a recluse. So find out whether you do or don’t need people around to recharge. And if you do, how many? And as hard as it sounds, there are also people – who can be dear friends – that it’s impossible to

Home

Something I absolutely need to relax and unwind is a clean and comfy house. So ideally, you would give everything a good clean on Saturday, to reap the benefits on Sunday. You can also make it extra cosy by lighting some candles or incense and playing some music. One of my favorite things to do self care wise is to clean sheet the bed. Don’t we all agree there’s no better feeling in the entire world than to get into a freshly made bed, after you had an everything shower & put on clean PJs? I think we do!

Since tomorrow just happens to be Sunday, make sure you try some of these self care tips for yourself and let me know what you think! As usual, also let me know your favorite things to do, so I can try and potential incorporate them into my self care-routine 🙂

Lots of Love,
Lena
