Last month I didn’t do a favorites post for the first time ever since starting them. However this month I shall not make the same mistake again! Since we moved house in July, my priorities on purchasing new things have shifted, though. I only have a couple of new beauty bits to share with you. And no new fashion items were purchased either. I did however get a lot of home decor, furniture et cetera, that is definitely going to make it into this post. I’m also thinking about dedicating a whole post on my favorite home inspo pages & places to shop, so make sure to let me know if you would be interested in that! But for now, let’s get into my September favorites!
September Favorites: Beauty
Starting with what I know best: beauty products. I know I said I only had a couple to share with you. But the longer I think about it, the more come to mind…
Uncorrupted Beauty – Big Booster High Energy Eye Lift
I have spoken about this brand before, and I’m actually thinking about doing a whole blogpost about it, too. But I did want to mention a couple of products of theirs in this post as well. First off I enjoyed using their Eye Lift Serum, which I apply after my hydrating serum in the mornings. I’m a little bit on the fence about eye products since seeing videos on social media how eye creams are basically just regular creams in a smaller tube… But this one is a serum/concentrate, so totally different, right?
Whatever the case may be, I do find that this stuff leaves my eye area really nice and hydrated without stinging. And since that’s basically all I ask of an eye cream/product, I’ve really enjoyed using this one. I can’t really attest to the lifting abilities of the product, because I like to think that there isn’t much to be lifted around my eyes.. just yet anyway!
Uncorrupted Beauty – High Performance Peptide Serum
This rejuvenating, firming serum from Uncorrupted Beauty is another product that made it into my September favorites. I use it after washing my face at night, before applying my FormelSkin active ingredient. And doing so has really helped my skin agree with said active ingredient more! So big tip for everybody that struggles with sensitive skin & retinols etc.: apply a hydrating serum or cream before. Really changed the game for me!
Another thing to mention about this product is that it has a really nice scent. And while I do like the scent, I think I would actually prefer if it came unscented. Because sensitive skin can sometimes react to the perfume in skincare. So if that is you, be weary of that! For me however, it seems to be just fine.
Semilac UV Nail Varnish
I discovered a new UV nail varnish brand this month and it has made it’s way right into my September favorites: Semilac. Specifically in the color “deep forest”. I found the nail varnish to be super easily applied, pretty much mess and fuzz free. I have made the experience in the past that you first have to do 2-3 fingers and then do the rest, because otherwise the nail varnish would run or go almost gritty. But this one did not do that at all, so pretty pleased with that.
And they come in a variety of different colors, too. For now, I have only tried the dark forest green, but am definitely excited to try some more!
September Favorites: Home & Interior
Morris & Co. Rug by Ruggable
Out of all of the things I purchased for the new flat, this Ruggable rug with the famous William Morris print is definitely among my top favorites! I pretty much always love Morris & Co. prints and fabrics, but this on in particular as my heart. First of all because green is my favorite color for interiors, and secondly because I love nature prints. And since this rug has both, it has easily made it into my September favorites.
What is absolutely amazing about Ruggable rugs, despite their designs, is the fact that you can chuck them into the washing machine should they get dirty. Yes – the washing machine! Even their biggest rug size fits into your standard washer. And since I have to cats and this is a lighter colored rug, being able to wash it every now and again is an absolute game changer. So far, I haven’t felt the need to wash it, but can attest that it also cleans very well with a cloth and water.
So if you’ve got pets and/or children, check out Ruggable! I couldn’t recommend them any more highly. They also have rugs and runners in all shapes and sizes, and so many designs. This wasn’t my last purchase from them for sure!
Garesa Curtain Pole
I’m actually a little embarrassed at how much money I spent on curtains and curtain poles last month… So the least I can do is share it with you guys!
I got two different types of finial: this twig/leaf shaped one and then just some round knobs. All in a lovely brass. What is absolutely amazing is the fact that you can choose pretty much any length that you need, as they are cut to order. I got all kinds of lengths ranging from 190 cm to 370 cm – we’ve got a lot of windows. Don’t worry though, I did not receive a parcel almost 4 meters long. Instead, I received them all in two pieces, that connect inside via a pin. That makes it a lot easier to install them as well.
Curtains
To go on my beautiful new curtain poles I got these amazing birds and twigs-printed black out curtains from a seller on Etsy. Yes, ordering them on Etsy was a little more expensive than say the curtains I got from H&M. But: I got to choose the top and pleats I wanted, as well as the main color and length. And if you think about it, getting the cheaper H&M curtains altered to fit the height of the room, you’re pretty close in price to these.
Plus I think it’s a lot better to support smaller business owners on Etsy then help H&M grow their monopoly (well, almost) even more. That’s not to say I’m not shopping on H&M anymore, because I do, but I like to support locals or smaller business where I can.
September Favorites: Books
The Ink Black Heart by Robert Galbraith
The Ink Black Heart by Robert Galbraith is potentially the longest book I have ever read. But it is also one of the best books I have read in a long time. I usually gravitate towards thrillers rather than (crime) novels, but this was a real page turner for me.
The Ink Black Heart is about a young woman, that became somewhat famous for creating a cartoon series on YouTube, being murdered. You get to read about the murder with a private investigator team, but also through the online chats of the YouTube series fans. It’s a little confusing in some parts, but the author had me changing my mind on who actually killed her a million times. And I was still surprised to find out who it was at the end.
“Robert Galbraith” is actually J. K. Rowlings pseudonym, and I found so many references to her own life and experiences in this book. Following JKR’s being cancelled on Twitter and getting a lot of trolls and hate, there was a lot of that in this book as well. There were also discussions of sexuality etc. in there, all topics that are pretty much polarizing at the moment.
I personally really enjoyed this book, even though it was a really long one, and I’m going to look into the other Cormoran Strike novels!
How to Make the Best Coffee at Home by James Hoffmann
I first came across this book in Edinburgh, but didn’t buy it because my luggage was already pretty full. However, I could not stop thinking about it, as coffee plays a pretty important role in my life – and I’m sure I’m not the only one! I am currently on the hunt for a really good barista coffee machine, so if you have any recommendations make sure to let me know in the comments!
Anyway, this book is amazing for anybody wanting to step up their coffee game. It teaches you all about the coffee bean itself, what to look out for in a grinder, recipes for water (who knew there were recipes for water?!), as well as the different methods of preparing the coffee. I find it to be highly interesting, and with lots of practical tips and tricks.
This book would also make a great birthday or Christmas gift for keen coffee drinkers!
What were your September favorites?
There you have it guys, the things I loved most this past month! As usual, let me know what you loved and enjoyed, so I can try it myself!
Lots of Love,
Lena
