Right around this time last year, I sat down to think about my travel bucket list for 2023 (read here). Since the year is almost over, and sadly, there isn’t anymore traveling to be done, I thought it time to sit down again and have a little recap with you. Let’s see where I actually ended up going and what is still on the to-see-list!
1. Germany
On my travel bucket list for 2023 were two destinations that should have been fairly easy to get to, as there are in my home country. The first one being Saxon Switzerland, the second one Marburg. And even though it all sounds very easy, I only managed to visit one of these places: Marburg.
To be fair, it was the better choice. At the time I still lived in Frankfurt, which is fairly close to Marburg. I have since moved about 350 kilometers up north – so it would have been much more of a hassle to go there. So being pressed for time, I decided I would visit Marburg instead of Saxon Switzerland. BUT Saxon Switzerland will stay put on my travel bucket list! Fingers crossed I manage to go there in 2024 – I’ve been wanting to go there for the past 4 years now I think!

2. the UK
For my summer holiday this year I wanted to go around the UK. Visit London, the Cotswolds, Edinburgh and Glasgow. And it was for sure my number one priority on my travel bucket list for 2023… so did I manage to go?
I sure did! And I have been longing to go back ever since… I think one of my biggest dreams in life is to move to the UK, the Cotswolds in the heart of England to be precise. Ah, one day! I didn’t manage to go to all of the places I had hoped to see. I couldn’t fit in Glasgow, Loch Lomond or the Isle of Syke. But all the more reason to go back! The highlands are definitely still something I want to see.

3. Bruges, Belgium + 4. Lausanne & Lake Geneva
These three destinations I did not manage to visit, even though I put them on my travel bucket list for 2023. But, fear not, there is another year to come, so they might make a reappearance on my travel destinations list for 2024… In all honesty, I’m not bummed about not visiting there, though. I had some spectacular holidays this year, some planed way in advance, some rather spontaneous. And thus, I ended up going to places that weren’t on my bucket list, like Mallorca (read here & here) or Salzburg (read here). There are just too many places to visit, and not enough time to do it all! Surely I am not alone.

So while I didn’t get to visit all of the places I had hoped to, I do think I ticked off a fair amount. Plus I obviously had a couple of bonus trips.
