Last week I told you all about my favorite travel destinations of 2022 (read here), and it got me so excited to travel again. But then, I am always excited about traveling. I have a list on my phone of places I want to go to, but every time the opportunity rolls around, I end up going somewhere else that’s not actually on the list, because I want to see all the of the places. And over the past years, I have been to and seen to many amazing cities. I am so, so grateful to be able to do that. The world we live in is pretty amazing, and there is honestly so much more I want to see and do that I am not sure a lifetime is enough. Especially given the fact that I am nearing 30 years old (kidding). To set it straight for myself, and to give you some inspo, here are the travel destinations I would love to visit in 2023!
1. Germany
Now this one is confusing, very unspecific and maybe obvious all at the same time. Being German and having lived here almost all my life, why would I want to travel Germany? Because there are so many fantastic places here I have never been to. And it is so easy to get to and from everywhere via the train.
In 2023, I would love to visit Saxon Switzerland (Sächsische Schweiz). The national park by the river Elbe looks perfect for hiking, with some of the craziest rock formations to be marveled at. It’s also great for rock climbing if your into that. And of course, with it being pretty hilly, you get some amazing views over the area, while getting your exercise in. Win-Win!
Another place I would love to visit next year is Marburg. This is actually scandalous, because I live in Frankfurt, which is about an hours drive from Marburg. And yet, I have never been there. It is looking absolutely picturesque, with its old, half-timbered houses and castles. And, it might be worth going during spring or summer, as well as the Christmas season. Bold statement for somebody that has never been even though it’s so close by. Maybe I have to space it out over the course of a few years, haha. Anyway, I think visiting Marburg in the winter would be an absolutely magical experience. And I have already declared my love for Christmas markets here. Keep your eyes peeled, I’ll definitely do a blogpost if I make it to Marburg!
2. the UK
For summer 2023, I would love to do a 2 week trip across the United Kingdom. For a few years now, I have been weirdly fascinated with the way of life of the British. So much so, I have considered moving there. But before I actually start to plan that, I should probably get to know the countries a little better. And, being a huge Potterhead, I would love to visit the Harry Potter Studios in London. Manifesting that to happen right now.
So, starting in London, I then want to go to the Cotswolds. The Cotswolds have been classified as an AONB; an “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty”. And if you look at pictures (see below) of the area, there is no doubt about that at all. Not only is nature around there absolutely beautiful, but also the villages, pubs and shops. This is probably the place I am most excited to go to next year.
Form the Cotswolds, I would then like to go to Scotland. I haven’t quite decided on where in Scotland exactly, but hey, I have about 6 more months to figure that out. Some things that are on my could do-list include:
- Edinbourgh
- Glasgow
- The Isle of Skye
- Loch Lomond
So much to explore, so little time to do it all. If you have ever been to Scotland, let me know where you went and what you did!
3. Bruges, Belgium
If you haven’t noticed already, I have a things for old houses and architecture. I really don’t see why anyone would prefer modern architecture, with its crazy shapes, glass and metal everywhere. For this reason, Bruges in Belgium is number 3 of the travel destinations I would love to visit in 2023. Unlike a lot of other European cities, Bruges has never fallen victim to wars or bombings. Therefore, a lot of the medieval structure of the city is still there. You can explore the city both by foot and by boat, as there are canals built all throughout it. And, honestly, if you look at the picture down below, doesn’t it just look super cozy? The perfect place to get lost in, to simply sit in a café and watch what happens around you.
4. Lausanne and Lake Geneva
And the last travel destination I would love to visit in 2023 is the Lake Geneva, in the area of Lausanne. I don’t actually remember how I got the idea to go here, but it doesn’t matter anyway. I think this travel destination would be so amazing for spring or early summer, when everything is in bloom and the climate is nice and mild. Because I would love to hike the vine yards. On my favorite hiking app, I found a tour that looks absolutely perfect (find it here). You get it all: the lake, the views, the food & wine. Not sure about you, but I don’t need anything else.
And, once again, there’s a lot of history and architecture in Lausanne. So if you’re not into hiking, there’s always the option of exploring the city.
To be perfectly honest, I could go on and on. There are sooo many places I still want to see. The two problems I have: limited time and limited money. Because I still haven’t won the lottery, even though I never play…
If you have ever been to any of the places listed above, please let me know how it was, what you did and where to stay! And, of course, I am always open to suggestions. What else should be on my travel bucket list?
Thanks for reading,
Lots of Love,
Lena
let’s go!
