Now don’t get me wrong – I love summer. I love all the seasons, to be honest. And I am fortunate enough to live in a place where we actually do experience all four seasons. Sometimes less, sometimes more – but hey, seasons nonetheless. Each year, without fail, towards the end of each season, I am about done with it and ready for the next. So while we are probably enjoying the last few days of summer, let’s see what autumn has to offer!
Reason #1: Off With The Pressure!
What I mean by “off with the pressure” is the feeling I – and maybe you as well – sometimes get during the summer. The weather is so lovely, and living in Germany you’re not guaranteed there will be a nice summer next year. Or even next week. So you have to make to most of the heat and sunshine while it is there.
But sometimes, I don’t want to enjoy the heat and sunshine. Sometimes, I just want to stay inside and watch TV. But then there’s always this nagging feeling of “you really shouldn’t be staying inside, it’s glorious outside!”. Sometimes, however, I honestly just don’t know what to do outside. I don’t have a garden to hang out it, sadly. And our balcony is south-facing – which is fantastic in spring and autumn, but in summer, you’re just getting roasted out there. And I don’t want to go on a million walks every single day. So come autumn, come the bad weather, I finally have a reason to snuggle up on the couch and watch endless TV!
Reason #2: I Can’t Wait To Not Constantly Sweat
This year I’ve come to the realization that everybody apparently really sweats a lot – at least according to them. If you’ve been following my blog, you might know I work as a sports therapist in a rehab clinic, so I meet a lot of different people. And I swear, 75% of those people tell me they sweat more than the average person. So maybe we need to redefine what an average amount of sweat is?
Anyway – one thing that bothers me about summer is the fact that you get sweaty even just existing. We have had a heat wave recently, and yes it’s nice when you’re by the sea, but not as much when you’re trying to do your everyday life. The amount of white t-shirts I go through each summer season is insane – not because I sully them, but simply because I’m sweating out my SPF, staining all my white clothing a nice shade of yellow. I’ve tried everything to both avoid them in the first place or at least to get them out, but to no avail. If you have any tips, please let me know!
Reason #3: I’m As Ready As Can Be For Autumn/Winter Fashion
Speaking of fashion: I can’t wait to get out all my comfy, cozy autumn/winter outfits. I am a huge sucker for knitwear and boots, neither of which are appropriate to wear during summer. And even though I have definitely found my style this summer, I am ready to bundle up! I also love the color palettes of autumn and winter, especially the ones trending this year. The dark greens and reds are just right up my street! I also got a couple of Barbour jumpers earlier this year on a trip to London, that I haven’t really had a chance to wear. So I can’t wait to style them up!
Jumper: Barbour (same style, different colors)
Wellies: Barbour
Handbag: Marc Jacobs (old out)
Reason #4: All Of The Cozy Autumn/Winter Vibes!
And with the cozy clothes come all of the other cozy vibes as well! As it gets dark outside sooner and sooner, on come the candles and side lamps, instantly creating a cozy atmosphere. I found this candle last year that I have been sneakily lighting a few times already, and I am absolutely obsessed with its scent! It is described as “breezy ozones fused with cotton blossom and white linder resting on warm woods” – a really fresh, clean scent that you just happen to get wafts off every now and again. Plus it looks lovely, blending into our “countryside aesthetic home” perfectly.
Reason #5: Get Cooking, Good Looking!
I really enjoy cooking, both for people or if it’s just for myself. It is the ultimate way of caring for somebody – one oneself – if you ask me. In summer, however, a lot of the times it is simply too warm to be standing in the kitchen for hours, boiling, frying or baking up a storm. Plus, if it is already hot outside, a lot of times I really don’t want any hot food. A salad or sandwich needs to do. By now, I am pretty much over having said salad every single day, even though I do my best to switch it up as much as possible. I am ready for piping hot soups with a side of toasted bread, pasta bakes and stews. Pancakes for breakfast (check out my favorite vegan recipe here!). And maybe this autumn/winter is going to be the season where I finally try my hand at making a traditional Sunday roast. You’re all invited!
