Capsule Wardrobe: The Spring Edit

I don’t know about you, but I am so ready for spring! Here in Germany, we have been getting little hints of it. But in true April-in-Germany-fashion, the weather has been all over the place: 25 °C one day and 10 °C the next. How are we supposed to know what to wear with weather changes like this? Don’t worry girl, I’ve got you covered! Here’s what’s in my capsule wardrobe for spring (& summer)!

What Exactly Is A Capsule Wardrobe?

The very idea of a capsule wardrobe is that basically all of your clothing goes with everything. That of course means there is little “crazy” colors, and a lot more neutral ones. Think whites, greys, blacks, beiges, and blues. There also isn’t a lot of pattern going on. A floral print top won’t work well with a checkered bottom. Does this mean there can’t be any “bolder” pieces of clothing in your wardrobe? Of course it doesn’t! It simply means that the majority of your wardrobe applies to the rules just mentioned. It is going to make your life a lot easier, as you don’t have to spend a lot of time thinking about what to wear every single day. Which also means getting 10 minutes of extra sleep every morning. What’s not to love?

What’s On Top

There is only one way to keep warm, but not too hot, in this crazy weather: layering. My favorite way to do so is to wear a nice button down shirt, and pop a cardigan or jumper over my shoulders. Not only does is look chic, but it also provides a lot more warmth than one would think. Plus if you do get too cold, you can simply pop said jumper on properly. Or, the other way around, if you’re getting too hot because the sun’s decided to show, you can take it off altogether. Since it is supposed to be a spring fashion edit, opt for lighter knits. And I know I said to avoid patterns, but I can’t pass a striped knit (not sorry)!

What’s On The Bottom

When it comes to bottoms, I think everybody has a different taste. Plus, not everything looks good on every body type. It sounds mean, but it is the truth! I know that low rise jeans are very much on trend at the moment. But not only am I having horrible flash backs (anybody else?), but they would also make my legs look super short and stumpy. Not a vibe at all!

To make a pair of bottoms capsule wardrobe appropriate, I would always opt for those classic, timeless cuts. Not too skinny, not too baggy, but right in the middle. Think mum jeans, chinos, culottes, etc. These styles have been around for ages and won’t date. In terms of color, since it is spring, go for lighter washes! It doesn’t have to be stark white, but a nice ivory color is a nice change to blue jeans. Should you prefer blue jeans, opt for mid-washes, rather than dark blues.

Footwear

To me, the perfect capsule wardrobe shoe is a neutral colored trainer. I practically live in them at this time of year! If you want something a little more elegant, a loafer or ballet flat is a really nice option. Stick to your neutral colors and you’re all good to go!

Capsule Wardrobe Accessories

Last but not least for our perfect capsule wardrobe we need accessories! I am very much a gold jewelry/accessories girl. It just suits my skin and hair color better than silver. And not only that, it also matches my outfits better. I tend to gravitate towards warmer colors and undertones, and gold just works better with it. But I don’t want to make this section of the post about jewelry, actually. This is about the accessories that complete the outfit, i.e. the sunnies, the bags and the belts. I personally prefer tan leather accessories, because they simply go with everything! Regardless if it’s an all white outfit, or you have injected some color into it. Black accessories can sometimes be a bit too harsh, I find.
